We don’t use these WordPress plugins, and you shouldn’t too

We’ve been working with WordPress for over 9 years. In that time we’ve tried and tested many, many plugins, and if there’s one thing we’ve learnt, is that most plugins are built for the average joe – though they generally do a decent job, the downside is that they sacrifice speed for ease-of-use and extra functionality that makes their plugin look great but in reality wouldn’t be used by most people.

I won’t elaborate on the pros and cons of the plugins listed below, but suffice to say we will NEVER use them in our clients websites:

  • General plugins:
    • Slider Revolution (oh how I hate thee)
    • Jetpack
    • Contact Form 7
    • Redirection
    • Hello Dolly
    • Polylang
    • Google Analytics Dashboard Plugin for WordPress by MonsterInsights
  • Security plugins
    • Wordfence Security – Firewall & Malware Scan
    • Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Security Hardening
    • All In One WP Security & Firewall
    • Really Simple SSL
  • Page builders
    • WPBakery Page Builder (previously known as Visual Composer) and all its addons
    • Muffin Builder
    • Divi Builder
    • Page Builder by SiteOrigin
  • Image compressors
    • Smush Image Compression and Optimization
    • EWWW Image Optimizer
    • Imagify
  • Caching & Speedup
    • WP Super Cache
    • WP Fastest Cache
    • W3 Total Cache
    • Autoptimize
    • WP-Optimize
    • Fast Velocity Minify

There are more that I can’t remember right now, I’ll add them here as I see them. Meanwhile if you need help to maintain your site or do a tuneup, we at Pixl are more than happy to help! Simply reach out via our Contact Page.
